Thai banknotes are printed on special cotton - made paper with a distinctive surface texture, identifiable by touch. The durability, tensile strength, folding resistance of banknote paper differs substantially from those of normal paper.
1. Watermark : The watermark is produced by varying the thickness of the paper. It appears when you hold the banknote against the light. H.M. the King's portrait will be shown on the right side. The watermark has a three dimensional appearance with areas in varying tones of dark and light. The portrait is placed majestically with the small and transparent watermark of Lai Thai.

2. Metallic Color Security Thread : A metal color thread lies vertically on the left side of each banknote deonmination. When holding the note against the light, small translucent numerals and letters indication its value become visble from both sides of the note.

3. Invisible Fluorescent Fibres : When the note is viewed under ultra - violet (UV) light, more security features show up. Unlike most commercial papers, the paper of the notes does not reflect UV light at all. Fibres which are invisible to the unaided eye are incorporated on both sides of the note surface. The fibres which cannot be seen in ordinary light, will glow under lutra - violet light.

Fibres embedded in the paper appear red, blue and yellow
