The Criminal Code against Counterfeiting Efforts
Section 240
Type of offense: Counterfeiting or knowingly performing any part of the process of counterfeiting currencies.
Penalty imposed: life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term ranging from 10 to 20 years with a fine of 20,000-40,000 baht
Section 241
Type of offense: Altering appearance of currencies with intent that they shall pass as currencies of different description/denomination/value from what it is.
Penalty imposed: life imprisonment or imprisonment for a term ranging from 5 to 20 years with a fine of 10,000-40,000 baht
Section 244
Type of offense: Possessing and knowingly using counterfeit currencies as genuine.
Penalty imposed: imprisonment for a term ranging from 1 to 15 years with a fine of 2,000-30,000 baht
Section 245
Type of offense: Passing to any other person as genuine, or attempting to induce any other person to receive as genuine, any counterfeit currency which the passer knows to be counterfeit, but which he/she did not know to be counterfeit at the time when he/she took it into his possession.
Penalty imposed: imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years and/or a maximum fine of 20,000 baht
Section 246
Type of offense: making or possessing instruments or materials for forging or counterfeiting currency notes or banknotes.
Penalty imposed: imprisonment for a term ranging from 5 to 15 years with a fine of 10,000-30,000 baht
Section 249
Type of offense: Making, possessing, passing any other material/item intended to be used as currency.
Penalty imposed: imprisonment for a term not exceeding 1 year and/or a maximum fine of 2,000 baht
