located on the ground floor of the South Wing, features Prince Varophakarn’s biography through a video presentation entitled,”Three Reigns, Three Estates” while a multi-media presentation portrays the Prince’s “stories, works and genius”. As a Minister who dedicated himself so faithfully and became the closest to the King, his roles were told through a timeline marking significant events during his time. An exhibit not to be missed is a group of puppets portraying the crisis in 1893 A.D. – an event so well remembered by generations of Thai people as the Prince illustrated his diplomatic skills with such charisma and brilliance. Impressive items on display in this room include a marble bust of the Prince carved by Swiss sculptor Robert Wening who arrived in the Kingdom in the reign of King Rama 5, diamond brooch bearing King Rama 6 insignia given to the Prince by King Rama 6 himself, belt, pocket watch, ring with his personal insignia, beauty chest and chess board. The Prince’s interest and knowledge of astrology were clearly reflected in a royal calendar with his handwriting recording daily events and the Theva Calendar, the prototype of modern Thai calendar.
