Thailand Win Award for Banknote Excellence
Thailand's new 1000 baht banknote (series 16) has been awarded Regional Banknote of the Year 2015 during the High Security Printing Asia Conference in Jakarta, Indonesia on 7-9 December 2015
The award recognizes outstanding achievement in the design, technical sophistication and security of a banknote or banknote series, the key judging criteria being that successful banknotes should combine visual artistry and high levels of technical and security sophistication, with considerable emphasis placed on reflecting the cultural heritage of the issuing country in the note, and the relevance of the overall design and symbolism to the issuing country.
The color and size of the new 1000 baht banknote (series 16) remains the same as its predecessor, but it has been enhanced with security features to facilitate authentication by machine as well as the general public. The outstanding features are color-shifting ink and a holographic stripe on the front, windowed color-shifting security thread with moving-box animation on the back, durable paper, and tactile marks for the visually-impaired.
The new 1000 baht banknote (series 16) went into circulation on 21 August 2015. The principal design theme of the new series celebrates Thai kings from different periods.
