Mr. Veerathai Santiprabhob, Governor of the Bank of Thailand (BOT), and H.E. Chea Chanto, Governor of the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) together with high-level delegations from both sides participated in the bilateral meeting between the two institutions on 3 February 2019 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The annual bilateral meetings aim at strengthening cooperation and deepening relationships between the two central banks, which have helped further enhance financial cooperation and promote the sustainable economic growth of Cambodia and Thailand going forward.
On this occasion, the two governors signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Cooperation in the Areas of Payments and Financial Innovation. The MOU aims to enhance the collaboration on financial innovations and payment services to promote more efficient and secured domestic and cross-border payment transactions as well as to promote the usage of local currencies. In this regard, the pilot project on developing interoperability of standard QR Code for payments has been agreed to facilitate retail payment services in Cambodia and payment linkages between the two countries.
