Mr. Somchai Lertlarpwasin currently holds the position of Assistant Governor of the Financial Institutions Supervision Group.  He is responsible for the supervision of financial institutions and specialized financial institutions. He possesses extensive expertise in supervising both domestic and foreign commercial banks, financial institutions governed under the Financial Institution Business Act, and specialized financial institutions. His responsibilities also encompass policy development for financial institution supervision, regulatory approaches for resolving financial institution issues, and promoting the development and stability of the financial system.

 

Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Somchai was responsible for financial institution strategy, supervisory policy, financial institution business regulation, and financial system stability. He played a key role in shaping the financial landscape to enhance the sector’s capacity in delivering improved financial services through various initiatives, such as virtual bank licensing and the 'Your Data' project. Furthermore, he actively promoted the transition of the financial sector toward sustainability and supported broader access to financial services.

 

Mr. Somchai holds a bachelor's degree in economics and econometrics from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, and a master's degree in economics from the London School of Economics.
