In Thailand, the Bank of Thailand (BOT) has the sole right to design, produce, issue, circulate and manage Thai banknotes. The reproduction of Thai banknotes is protected by the Copyright Act B.E. 2537.

Anyone who wishes to reproduce images of banknotes for any purpose (informational, educational, advertising, numismatic, etc.) must obtain prior permission from the BOT. Reproduction requests must include a statement of purpose, as well as an example/sketch/drawing of the material featuring the image of the banknote, and must be submitted to the address and email below

Reproduction in printed media:

Below are the guidelines for the reproduction of banknotes in printed media:

  • if the image is in colour or flat to the camera or naked eye, the dimensions of the image shall be distinctly smaller or larger than those of the genuine banknote;
  • the image shall not be depicted in a manner that is deemed offensive to either Thailand's esteemed monarch or the BOT

Reproduction in electronic media:

  • the image resolution shall not exceed 72 dpi;
  • the word "SPECIMEN" shall be printed diagonally across the reproduction in a different colour, but it shall not cover any part of the portrait;
  • the image shall not be depicted in a manner that is deemed offensive to either Thailand's esteemed monarch or the BOT.
