Memorandum of Understanding for Thailand as the host of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank

On October 15, 2023, Deputy Minister of Finance Mr. Krisada Chinavicharana and the Bank of Thailand Assistant Governor Ms. Chayawadee Chai-anant together with the World Bank (WB) President Mr. Ajay Banga and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, jointly signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Thailand as the host of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank (2026 Annual Meetings).

 

In April 2023, Thailand was voted by the IMF and the WB Boards of Governors as the host of the 2026 Annual Meetings. The IMF-WB Annual Meetings are one of the world’s most prestigious economic and financial meetings, convening ministers and central bank governors from 190 countries, as well as the top management of international organizations and financial institutions. More than 300 meetings will be organized across member countries, regional groups, and leading financial institutions. The Annual Meetings are scheduled to take place in October every year, and to be held outside of Washington D.C. every 3 years.

 

As the host of 2026 Annual Meetings, Thailand will once again assume the leading role in driving and facilitating the global policy agenda and dialogues, while also strengthening international cooperation by providing a platform for sharing insights among the global community. In addition, this will be an opportunity for Thailand to showcase the country’s hospitality and capacity to host world-class international meetings, leveraging on the readiness of the meeting venues, accommodation, medical services as well as comprehensive network of transportation, including as the regional hub of airlines. The Annual Meetings usually bring in more than 12,000 attendees from all over the world, and are expected to generate
wide-ranging economic activities for the nation.

 

Thailand had previously hosted the IMF-WB Annual Meetings in 1991.
