The Bank of Thailand will start issuing 50 Baht and 100 Baht Polymer Banknote on 21 November 2025
BOT Press Release 32/2025 | 29 Aug 2025
Dr. Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, the Governor of The Bank of Thailand (BOT), unveiled the new 50 Baht and 100 Baht polymer banknote. The polymer banknotes have superior resistance to moisture and dirt, as well as their enhanced durability, to ensure cleaner, longer-lasting banknotes for public use. Following the issuance of the 20-baht polymer banknotes in 2022, the Bank of Thailand has observed improved durability in circulating notes. Polymer banknotes are estimated to last approximately 4 times longer than paper ones, or around 8 years, resulting in a reduction of at least 350 million replacement notes annually. This contributes to resource efficiency and supports environmental sustainability.
The 50 Baht and 100 Baht polymer banknotes keep the same design theme and features as the current paper banknotes in circulation. Advanced anti-counterfeit technologies are used to ensure that the new polymer banknotes are difficult to counterfeit. A distinctive feature compared to paper banknotes is the clear window that can be seen from both sides, along with an embossed denomination marking within the window, along with the color-shifting ink for enhanced security. Additionally, the tactile embosses and transparent diagonal lines were added to support individuals with visual impairments, which can be easily touched and felt.
The new 50 Baht and 100 Baht polymer banknotes will be issued on 21 November 2025 through all banks, along with the Automated Teller Machines. They can also be used with vending machines. The existing and the previous series remain legal tender.
