1st Academic Network Initiative
Topic: Fostering Sustainability through the Next Generation to Enhance Regional Economic Development
On February 27, 2025, the Bank of Thailand, Northern Region Office, hosted its inaugural Academic Network initiative at its Chiang Mai office. The initiative aims to provide a platform for participants to exchange academic perspectives and recommendations on issues primarily related to economics, finance, and the roles and responsibilities of their organizations in supporting the regional development of Northern Thailand.
The event facilitated discussions and idea-sharing aimed at guiding the economic advancement and development of the northern region, while addressing emerging challenges and the evolving global landscape under the theme “Fostering Sustainability through the Next Generation to Enhance Regional Economic Development.” The event was honored by the participation of representatives from five esteemed institutions - World Bank Thailand, Chiang Mai University, Mae Fah Luang University, Naresuan University, and the Puey Ungphakorn Institute for Economic Research -who contributed valuable insights.
Participants in this initiative collaboratively discussed strategies to enhance the Northern Thailand’s economy, organized into five key areas: 1) Workforce Development, 2) Business and Economic Support, 3) Policy and Strategy Development, 4) Infrastructure, Community, and Social Development, and 5) Conservation and Promotion of Sustainability. The discussions emphasized defining the future growth engine for Northern Thailand to ensure optimal resource allocation in alignment with national policy objectives. The event also facilitated the exchange of data, research, and insights on the roles of each participating organization in strengthening the capabilities of students, citizens, and entrepreneurs in the region. Participants regarded the initiative as a highly valuable platform for idea exchange, paving the way for enhanced collaboration, including joint regional research and the development of essential skills for students, citizens, and entrepreneurs to support the region's future growth.
