Roles and Responsibilities of Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and Financial Institution Policy Committee (FIPC)
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and the Financial Institutions Policy Committee (FIPC) are jointly responsible for overseeing the stability of the Thai financial system. The committees monitor and offer informed guidance in the formulation of macro-prudential policy (MaPP) to ensure all sectors within the financial system, including commercial banks, financial markets, insurance, households, and systemically important corporations, are robust and flexible to withstand changes and uncertainties, and to prevent potential vulnerabilities in certain sectors from developing into systemic events. Particularly, the committees play a crucial role in ensuring a sound financial system.
Frequency of meeting
The MPC and the FIPC hold two regularly scheduled meetings per year to exchange information and views on financial stability and engage in extensive policy deliberations to ensure a reliable financial system in Thailand. The minutes of the discussions shall be released subsequent to each meeting to communicate the situation and risks to the Thai financial system, with the objective of promoting comprehension and cooperation from all sectors as well as informing the public.
